Where To Experience Fall In Los Angeles

Fall is finally here! Unfortunately, our fabulous Mediterranean climate can leave us lacking in traditional crisp autumn moments. There’s no nip to the air or dramatic color changes that take place – except in in fashion.   But fear not, because we have compiled a  list of the best fall-foliage spots in Los Angeles so you can save flight money to the East coast while still feeling like you’re not missing out!!

1. Malibu Creek State Park

The Santa Monica Mountains provide some of the best opportunities for local leaf peeping, and at Malibu Creek Park you will discover some lovely old growth trees that turn all shades of fall as cooler air comes to town. It is a great place for beginner hikers or picnicking.  Use the Tapia Park entrance, which boasts large oaks and great spots to settle.  The Sycamore trees begin to change in the later part of the fall season.

2. Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

The Arboretum is home to many unique trees that display brilliant color in autumn. As a result, it is one of the best places to view fall color in the city.  Boasting 127 acres of trees and plants from all over the world, naturalists will be amazed at the color produced by the Arboretum’s deciduous inhabitants. Look for the Freeman’s maple trees for brilliant red tones or the Shagbark hickories for beautiful yellow hues.

3. Lake Arrowhead

Located 80 miles East of Los Angeles, Lake Arrowhead is about an hour and a half hour drive. It is often thought of as a winter and summer retreat, but you should not miss it in the fall, when foliage is part of the scenery. Black oak, cottonwood and maple trees create a palette of rose, orange and gold colors that will delight the most seasoned of foliage followers.
