Famous Great Rooms | Hearst Castle

October 10, 2019

Great Rooms boast a level of opulence to a home. Walking in a classic Great Room the elements to be noticed are high ceilings, typically beamed, and grand wood burning fire places (sometimes one on each opposite end of the room). Imagine curling near the fire places in the grandiose of all Great Rooms this fall season at the famous Hearst Castle. Hearst Castle was the magnificent home of William Randolph Heart.

Famous not only for the admired Californian Style architect, Hearst Castle was also the set of Citizen Kane. Citizen Kane is a classic film by Orsen Welles that famously shows scenes in the Great Room of Hearst Castle with a grand fireplace as the meaning of Rosebud is uncovered. The estate in the film was called Xanadu and was the residence of character Charles Foster Kane inspired by William Randolph Hearst.

The fireplace is iconic and unforgettable in the majestic Great Room of Hearst Castle as depicted in Citizen Kane. Great Rooms are more common in estates on the East Coast and older architecture of a larger square footage. However, Hearst Castle is located on the California coastline over looking the Pacific Ocean which makes the estate even more incredible due to the ideal location.
