Shipping Container Homes

March 30, 2016

You’ve seen them around before, but not quite like this. Shipping Containers… oh what one can do with an imagination and a couple of these bad boys!

How about transforming them into a home? First off, you can get a shipping container for about $1500. They are flood and fire proof, and make great home-building material. They range in length from 20 to 3o feet and typically only used from 10 to 15 years, but can last much longer! An estimated 24 million empty shipping containers around the world that are said to never be used for cargo again. So why put some treasure to waste, and why not recycle these for an innovative home design concept?

Will these be the cost-effective homes of the future? Can you imagine communities of these? Easy to design, style and make your own. How much would they go for? Could this be the new home design trend?

These are actually spotted all around the world from Brazil, Arizona, Costa Rica, Texas, Chile, Italy, Spain, France, Canada, California, Germany and New York. Ranging in square footage from 320 sf to 4,000!
