Unique Hotels Around the World

Have you caught the travel bug? Let us help! Just in time for summer, we’ve compiled six of the most unique hotels in the world.

IceHotel, Sweden

Each suite is unique and the architecture of the hotel is changed each year, as it is rebuilt from scratch. Each year, artists submit their ideas for suites, and a jury selects about 50 artists to create the church, Absolut Ice bar, reception, main hall and suites. When spring comes, everything melts away and returns to the Torne River. The Icehotel only exists between December and April, and has been listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Sweden.

Kakslauttanen, Finland

Enjoy the northern lights in a glass-topped igloo! Aurora Borealis-spotting is the main attraction at Kakslauttanen from August through late April. In the winter, visitors can also ride snow mobiles, take sled rides with huskies, go ice fishing or see reindeer. And in the summer, the resort accommodates activities like horseback riding and panning for gold.

PALACIO DE SAL HOTEL, Bolivia

Located on the banks of the majestic Salar de Uyuni, in Bolivia, only 15 miles from the city, you will find the Sal Palace, the only one of its kind to be built entirely with salt: walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, sculptures, absolutely everything!

Le Balade des Gnomes, Belgium

www.labaladedesgnomes.be

This hotel with 10 crazy rooms is guaranteed to captivate the imagination. In fact, the motto of the hotel is “all that you can imagine is real.”  It is located in a tiny 17th century town with cobbled streets and lovely shops. The inspiration for each of the hotel’s rooms comes from traditional fairy tales. In fact, “La Balade des Gnomes” translates as “the walk of the gnomes.”

Adrere Amellal Desert Eco Lodge, Sidi al-Ja’afar, Siwa, Egypt

Adrere

The ancient Egyptians called Siwa the ‘Field of Trees.’ Today this isolated settlement is home to a small population of Berbers and one of the world’s most interesting hotels. You won’t find marble sinks and black-suited staff here and you can’t use the Wi-Fi because there is no electricity.  Your room is luxurious but in the sense that you are free from the demands of digital existence.

Estancia Vik José Ignacio, Uruguay

Estancia Vik

The all-suite hotel is bedecked with art and furniture manufactured by local artists and craftsmen. Estancia Vik offers 12 colonial Spanish rooms that are outfitted with every modern amenity available. The hotel also offers a driver service that will take you to the beach where you can sip on cocktails and revel in the sun or charter private yachts and ocean tours.
