Hello and welcome to the real estate minute. I’m your host Ivan Estrada with Ivan Estrada Properties at Douglas Elliman. And in this episode, we’re discussing 3D printing from around the world in regards to real estate. With 3D printers you can now create any shape with materials such as fiber, sand and concrete to build the real estate project of your dreams. So the real estate minute is going to work like this. There are three segments, one minute each, three minutes total. Let the real estate minute begin.
In the city of Dubai, it’s been mandated that within the next 7 years, a quarter of all the buildings must be constructed using a 3D In addition to reducing costs, it will also reduce the amount of man labor that is necessary to do the construction. In Dubai last year, they constructed the first office building and it took only 17 days with the price of a hundred and forty thousand dollars. The total people on staff was one person controlling the 3D printer, seven people controlling the on-the-ground activities such as all the interior and exterior detailing, and 10 inspectors and electricians controlling the engineering of the entire project.
The first 3D printed home made its debut in the city of Nantes in France in summer of 2018. The home is a little bit over a thousand square feet with five rooms, curved windows, doors and walls. T he project known as Yhnova house is a 3D printed home, which is built using a patent 3D printing method called body print 3D. The walls are very insulated and energy-efficient. Throughout the home, there are monitoring sensors that control the humidity, the temperature and the air quality. The house is also very wheelchair accessible and you can control everything from your smartphone. Now, it took only 54 hours to construct the home, but three months to install windows, doors and a roof. Currently the house is going to be used as social housing.
A company by the name of New Story builds homes for some of the poorest people in the world. Now, they’ve combined forces with a company called Icon out of Austin to build a 3D printer to take to third world countries where electricity is scarce. At the moment New Home could build homes within 13 to 20 days. But with this new printing capability, you’ll be able to build homes within 12 to 24 hours. The plan is to build homes between 600 to 800 square feet that would usually take 12 to 24 hours with two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. These homes are going to be very resilient towards any weather condition and also very energy efficient. The end goal is to build these 3D printed communities where it’s needed the most
